Kathken Vineyards is a quiet, secluded 51 acre vineyard in the fir covered Eola Hills, just 7 miles west of Salem. The site is at 700 ft to 900 ft with a south west exposure. We have 40 acres in
producing vines, 34 acres of Pinot Noir (various clones but predominately Pommard and Wadensvil) and 6 acres of Pinot Gris. All plants are on a Geneva Double Curtain or a Carbonneau "Open Lyre" trellis system, which is high maintenance but,
coupled with our elevation, makes for optimum production and quality. Ken and Kathy Slusser are the owners, managers and working staff of the vineyard and the Bella Vista tasting room. We have a beautiful 2 acre park with a picnic area under majestic fir trees. There are numerous picnic tables to accommodate parties of any size. A large BBQ is also available for your use. The larger pond is stocked with trout and gold comets, and fed by babbling streams and waterfalls to sooth your souls. There is also a smaller koi pond. A 400 sq ft stage is used for the summer music program, but can be utilized in weddings, retreats, reunions or conferences. Many hanging flower baskets, flower beds and ferns add color and beauty to the environment. The tiki torches throughout the park and the Malibu lights and small twinkle lights around the pond add a magical touch to the evenings. The 3 bon fire pits add warmth and glow merrily on those cold evenings. We encourage everyone to walk up to the top of the vineyard and discover the panoramic views of the Willamette Valley below and the western hills beyond. It is a spectacular sight, truly a "Bella Vista", and one not to be missed.
